BASE was originally founded as KPN Orange, the third mobile operator in Belgium. At that launch, in 1999, KPN Orange was a 50/50 joint-venture between KPN N.V. and Orange plc and offered its products and services under the Orange brand name. In February 2001, KPN Mobile acquired the full ownership of KPN Orange. The company rebrands into BASE in the spring of 2002. By the end of December 2001, the company had over 1.000.000 subscribers, making it the fastest growing mobile operator in Belgium with a market share of around 13. BASE is based in Brussels and currently has over 1000 employees. Its products and services are sold in 41 of its BASE shops and at 2000 other sales outlets. BASE is a 100 subsidiary of KPN Mobile, one of the important mobile telecom operators on the European Market. KPN Mobile focuses its development of voice and data services on Germany (E-Plus), Belgium (BASE) and The Netherlands (KPN Mobile).
