"Latvijas Mobilais Telefons" Ltd. is the biggest mobile network operator in Latvia. LMT operates on the mobile market since 1992 and is the first mobile network operator in the country. LMT was established as an operator of NMT system. Within years of its activity the company has undergone rapid development. In January 1995 GSM network has started its operation, in December 1999 a dual 900/1800 Mhz network was opened. Starting with1st September 2002 the customers of the company all over Latvia can use data transmission services. Since December 2004 UMTS 3G mobile communication network has started to operate in commercial mode. In November 2006 LMT mobile communication network covered 99.00 of the territory of Latvia, enabling 97.76 of Latvian population to enjoy mobile communication possibilities.
