Company profile

A subsidiary of fixed line incumbent Telefonica de Argentina, TCP originally provided mobile services in ten provinces in the south of the country. When it won its PCS licence in 1999, it expanded its operations to the north and assumed the brand name Unifn. TCP has worked aggressively throughout 2002 to combat the economic crisis and retain customers, cutting costs and embarking on schemes aimed at increasing customer loyalty. Like Telecom Personal, TCP is suffering from the knock-on effects of its parent's indebtedness, and in December 2002 it signed a letter of understanding with Swedish equipment supplier Ericsson to restructure USD130 million of debt. TCP is 97.93 owned by Telefonica Mviles.
