The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is the non-profit corporation that was formed to assume responsibility for the IP address space allocation, protocol parameter assignment, domain name system management, and root server system management functions previously performed under U.S. Government contract by IANA and other entities.

CEPT has re-organised in order to meet the challenges of convergence in the radio and telecommunications market. The two offices, ERO and ETO, have merged, and a new Electronic Communications Committee, ECC, has been established. The ERO and ETO web sites are still active, but linked to each other in order to ease the access to information and documents. A new web site for the new European Communications Office, ECO, is under development.

SHDSL (Symmetric High-Speed Digital Subscriber Line) is emerging as the access technology of choice for high-speed symmetric service offerings by the service providers for businesses and Small Office Home Office (SOHO) customers.
