OPTA independently regulates compliance with legislation and regulations in the areas of post and electronic communications. The legislation and regulations are intended to promote competition on these markets, resulting in more choice and fair prices for consumers. OPTA is a governmental body and non-departmental agency of the Ministry of Economic Affairs that operates as an Autonomous Administrative Authority. All telecommunications providers (either fixed or mobile) must interconnect their networks so that every telephone call (with different providers) can be established. This makes it possible for a fixed telephone (with KPN) to call a mobile number with any other provider.

NPT is an autonomous administrative agency under the Norwegian Ministry of Transport and Communications, with monitoring and regulatory responsibilities for the postal and telecommunications markets in Norway. The Communications Regulatory Authority (Agcom) is an independent authority, established by Law 249 of 31 July 1997. Independence and autonomy are the elements which typify its activity and its decisions. ComReg is the statutory body responsible for the regulation of the electronic communications industry (telecommunications, radio communications and broadcasting) and the postal sector. We are the national regulatory authority for these sectors in accordance with EU law which is subsequently transposed into Irish legislation.
