
IBBT the Interdisciplinary institute for broadband technology is a research institute founded by the Flemish government in 2004. It is aimed at Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in general and the development of broadband applications in particular. IBBT's mission is to perform demand-driven research programs focused on the development of generic knowledge and company-specific RD-projects with and on the initiative of the industry and the service sector and/or participation in European research programs. Furthermore a research test environment for broadband networks, businesses and companies is provided.

The Inukshuk Wireless broadband network is currently available in 90 centres across Canada (Quebec). The Infrared Data Association, often referred to as IrDA, is a nonprofit organization whose goal is to develop globally adopted specifications for infrared wireless communication. Global acceptance and use of these specifications is paramount to the success of IrDA and its members. The Architectural Council works with the SIGs in the early definition of new specifications, ensuring that they are compatible and offer legacy support to existing specifications. Marketing Committee provides tactical support in developing new markets and strategic support in promoting infrared wireless communication. Technical Committee resolves all technical issues that arise during specification development and the Test and Interop Committee provides tools and services to ensure compliance to specifications and interoperability.
